Microsoft Power BI tool

Microsoft Power BI is an interactive data visualization software developed by Microsoft with the main focus on business intelligence. It is a part of the Microsoft Power Platform. Power BI is a group of software services, apps, and connectors that work together to turn unrelated sources of data into coherent, visually immersive, and interactive insights. Data may imported by reading directly from a database, webpage, or structured files such as spreadsheets, CSV, XML, JSON and many more.

Microsoft Power BI certification course is a dominant enterprise suite which offers intuitive analytical tools which support management in interpreting huge data volumes and generating useful insights. Microsoft Power BI allows its users to connect and integrate data from vast sources, transform raw data into the finished product and reproduce it in presentable, easy to understand format to help in strategic decision making.

Power BI provides cloud-based BI (business intelligence) services, along with a desktop based interface, called "Power BI Desktop". It offers data warehouse capabilities which includes data preparation, data discovery and interactive dashboards. In March year 2016, Microsoft released an additional service called Power BI Embedded on its Azure cloud platform. One main difference between the products is the ability to load custom visualizations.

The application was originally envisaged by Thierry D'Hers and Amir Netz of the SQL Server Reporting Services Team at Microsoft. It was originally designed by Ron George, named the Project Crescent. The Project Crescent was initially available for public download on July 11, 2011 bundled with SQL Server Codename Denali, later renamed to Power BI and it was then revealed by Microsoft in September year 2013 as Power BI for Office 365 users. The first release of Power BI was based on the Microsoft Excel-based plug-ins such as Power Query, Power Pivot and Power View. With time, Microsoft added many additional features such as Question and Answers, enterprise level data connectivity and security options via Power BI Gateways. Power BI was first released for the general public in July 24th, 2015.

In February 2019, Gartner.com, a software reviewing company, confirmed Microsoft as the Leader in the "2019 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Analytics and Business Intelligence Platform" as a result of the capabilities of Power BI platform. This report represented the 12th consecutive year of recognition of Microsoft as the Leading vendor in this Magic Quadrant category.
